Early Nutrition Programming (Earnest) and Perinatal Lipid Nutrition (PeriLip) – two projects supported by the European Union – are recommending omega-3 supplements to pregnant women.
The diet of nursing and pregnant women is often low in omega-3. These fatty acids can help boost child development and healthy births.
The committee recommends 200 mg DHA per day. Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, is an omega-3 fatty found in fat fish like salmon, mackerel and herring. DHA can improve brain and eye development and it can also lower the risk for premature births and low birth weights.
I totally agree with this it is very essential to a babies life:)
Taking fish oil / omega 3 during pregnancy is a great idea. There are also lots of other benefits for the child if the mother is deficient in fatty acid, DHA.
I agree wholeheartedly with this article. I took Neurovi’s (www.neurovi.com)Omega 3 supplement during my pregnancy because of the ratio of DHA to EPA which is almost ideal. Plus it wasn’t terribly expensive and way less than other quality brands I researched..trust me I did! Anyway, I am the happy mom of a healthy baby boy so I will definitely use this again! Thanks for the great and informative article.
Studies indicate that increasing omega-3 fatty acids in the diets of premature infants with ROP—retinopathy of prematurity—decreased the size of the area of damaged retinal blood vessels.[3]
Fish pills during pregnancy is very good. My wife took them and we had two healthy boys.
